“Parents,” by Blake Cooper
After spending over a year on my previous album, I felt like making some quick, less polished music. So I decided that, in a month or so, I’m going to release an EP with some new songs, some older songs that didn’t make the OCL cut, and maybe a remix or live track or two. Like I said I’ll probably put this up within the next month, for free.
This first song was made in two days (one for the relatively simple drum programming and guitars, one more to write/record vocals and mix). It’s about generational disconnect, and while it’s not perfect (even really good art never is), I had a lot of fun making it. I hope you like it.
And of course, you can check out my full-length album here.
This is a song I first heard in this short film by Kenneth Anger. It’s called “It Came in the Night,” by from what I can tell is the fourth or fifth most obscure band in existence, A Raincoat. I like it; it sounds like the Beatles with a sort-of glam-rock edge maybe? I don’t know. It’s creepy, and it’s cool.
The only link I could find to it on the internet led me to an MP3 version of a scratchy transfer. It was also badly mastered. I tweaked the EQ a little and used an expander to give the song a little more “bounce,” as it were.

Triple Threat of the Day: David Lynch: Writer, director… pop star?
The LA Times’ Pop & Hiss reports:
Last heard on 2009’s “Dark Night of the Soul,” a collaboration with producer Danger Mouse and the late psychedelic roots artist Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse), the Los Angeles-based artist has released a pair of songs exclusively to iTunes. The tracks — “Good Day Today” and “I Know” — couldn’t be more different. “Good Day Today” is a trancey electronic cut, while “I Know” goes for a more spooked, atmospheric rock feel.
Lynch has signed with British indie Sunday Best, a label run by DJ Rob da Bank. The songs were recorded with engineer Dean Hurley, who has worked with Lynch on many of his films. Lynch says the goal is to release a full-length album of original music.
“Good Day Today” is above. “I Know” is here.

“Lucky 1” by Avey Tare
I’m excited about this album. And I’m shocked how approachable this tune is… meaning it isn’t playing in reverse.
