It’s hard to do music that sounds like it’s from teen movies from the late ’70s/early ’80s without coming off as overly ironic, or even as parody. But the derivation of a sound is less important with a band like Summer Camp, because their music is interesting and involved in its own aesthetic; melodies swirl and swell, warmth is exuded and the fact that “Round the Moon” sounds a little like “This Is the Day” by The The is forgotten (what’s wrong with that?).

I’m immensely impressed by each new thing I hear from this band. Their first EP is out early next month, and I’m fairly certain they will be really popular… which is great, because I can find so little about the band right now on the internet (and what I can find is ambiguous— conflicting reports say they are either from the UK, Chicago or Sweden), and their ascension will bring some media coverage and, better yet, more cool music.
